In 2006, I found the breed founders website New Zion Shiloh's. I began researching her website and I found the section labeled "Available adults." Basco was listed and I just kept an eye on him daily. Towards the end of 2006 I decided to put in an application for him. I was then approved to be Basco's new owner, except I had to wait until the end of Jan or Feb 2007 to pick him up.
At the end of February 2007 I took a 36 hour trip out to Buffalo, NY and New Zion to pick up Basco. That is the exact day the bond between him and I developed. I had never owned a kennel dog before and it took a lot of patience and help from other people to get him accustomed to house life.
Now in 2009 he is doing great, he would definitely rather be indoors that outside and he loves to play with certain dogs. His home environment has changed dramatically since coming home with me and he keeps taking everything in stride. He has an extremely soft temperament and I have had to change my training and how I approach him dramatically. There have been many ups and downs in our relationship, but he has now blossomed into a great dog!
I am very grateful to have him in my life and I have learned a lot from him as a dog. He has taught me patience and how to take a step back and then start over. I always try to end training on a good note and that has seemed to help.
I am putting Basco up for adoption only because I am starting my breeding program. He deserves to be the center of attention in a home. He does well with cats, other small and large animals and would do best with a non dominant dog in the household. He is reserved and laid back, the perfect house dog. He enjoys going everywhere with his people, but he's content to stay in the car while the errands are being ran. He can be trusted in the house without a crate, but he does love sleeping in a crate when given the chance.
Any questions feel free to contact me through my website.
